Brockbank and McGill (2012) definition of developmental mentoring:

'An agreed activity between mentor and client, where goals are generated by and for the client, where the process is person-centered and the learning outcome is transformation'

Take risks, embrace set backs and failure, rise-up stronger and carry on. Sometimes a guide is helpful. I can be your guide. Be a courageous learner of life.

One to one developmental mentoring provides the space to reflect, be reflexive, ask challenging questions of your self and others and grapple creatively with life’s challenges.

I offer developmental mentoring for adult who are wishing to manage challenging situations and maintain their well-being. Through reflective dialogue and creative activities, those who work with me are empowered to reflect critically, make mindful choices and respond appropriately when life gets tough. The creative and reflective processes enhance self-awareness, criticality and boost confidence.

I take an empathetic, active listening and facilitative approach to mentoring. I am your companion within an enabling work relationship and safe, empathetic environment. The nature of our learning relationship is dynamic and reciprocal. You become inspired to go where the learning takes you with confidence and self-compassion.

While unlikely, should you experience emotional discomfort that is beyond the scope of the mentoring relationship and requires specialist attention, I will guide you towards finding the appropriate professional support.

Blocks to progress present rich learning opportunities.

Along the way you will encounter turbulent tides, rough seas and discover how to ride the waves.

We work in 'swampy lowlands' (Schon, 1987) by trial and error, learning from our mistakes.

Schon said the process of trial and error and learning from mistakes is artistry. The reliable map and accurate compass are reflection and reflexivity.

Schon gave us the swamp image because he knew that all education requires entering a place of not-knowing, of having to ask significant questions to find out. The traveller on the educative journey through difficult terrain has to trust their few pieces of equipment. They might have helpers along the way, but no definitive guide. Being guided with certainity through the swamp would not be educative'
